Gestalt Principles #1 – examples in logos

by Syd

Figure/Ground – the fundamental principle of perception that allows us to read imagery

between the “E” and “x”, a rightward pointing arrow is created in the negative space

Similarity – the degree of sameness to each other

the box depicting Statue of Liberty is similar in shape and size to the box depicting the the athlete, and placed in such a way that creates a singular object

Continuance – grouping that results in a continuation of direction

direction of the shapes and the figure kicking the ball suggests motion from the lower left corner to the upper right corner

Proximity – the degree of distance between sensations

uniform space between blue bars is mirrored in the uniform space between letters

Closure – grouping into recognizable forms or shapes

individual shapes are arranged in such a way that the panda’s outline can be perceived
